Hi! I’m Nikki.
I’m interested in healing and liberatory practices and ideas that help us witness ourselves and (re)connect to our purpose, our people and communities, and the world around us. In my opinion, personal change is not separate from collective change. True personal transformation helps us to see and show up not only for ourselves but also for each other.
I hope my offerings are pathways to doing that. That includes readings, writing, and resources that connect us to our sacred work, all that surrounds us, and who and what sustain us. My practice is deeply inspired by astrology, somatics, and liberatory praxis as tools for healing and change.
My sincere hope is that Daughter of Pearl offerings help you (re)discover more of yourself and take inspired action for your/our world. I hope they help you to hold visions of possibility, to offer care and love, to make art, to advocate and build, to show up in whatever shape you are meant to fulfill in our collective story.
I’m glad you found your way here, and I hope we’ll have the opportunity to connect.
My practice is grounded in a web of teachings, people, and practices that have deeply inspired and affected me. Each has shaped the way I think about and approach astrology, personal and collective healing, and somatic practice. Below I list some of the thinkers, teachers, and lineages that have most shaped my practice.
Astrology
I have learned from many astrologers over the years via their courses, books, workshops, and lectures. I credit Kelly Surtees, Chris Brennan, Austin Coppock, and Demetra George for much of what I know on natal and predictive technique. Just as important, my practice is deeply informed by the work of astrologers who approach the tradition and astrological interpretation in ways that are liberatory and relational. This includes Chani Nicholas, Michael J. Morris, and Elmina Bell, whose work has encouraged me to adopt a liberatory, feminist, and decolonial perspective in practice; Diana Rose Harper’s animist approach to astrology, which has enlivened my relationship with the planets; and Kira Ryberg, whose teachings on the decans and bounds have breathed nuance and story-telling into my work.
Somatics
I have been deeply inspired by somatic instructors whose work is closely tied to social justice, like Staci K. Haines, Kai Cheng Thom, and Prentis Hemphill. And my path with embodiment has been further shaped by the classes and programs I have taken at the Embody Lab, the tools and frameworks of which are woven into my practice, especially the certification program “Somatic Trauma Healing”.
Healing and liberatory praxis
Writings by folks like adrienne marie brown, bell hooks, and Audre Lorde have been integral to my understanding of the power of beloved community, radical imagination, and a healing ethic. I am grateful, too, for teachings on rest, imagination, and community by Tricia Hersey of the Nap Ministry. The teachings of Dra. Rocio Rosales Meza on the necessity of making healing work both spiritually and systemically aware are a cornerstone of my practice. Her Divine Alignment course also deeply encouraged me to approach my life and practice as sacred work.
