on trusting your life’s timing

How astrology helps us to understand our life’s story

I recently heard someone say that they’re in a personal renaissance. It made me pause for a moment because I realized I was in some ways too, even though those aren’t the words I would have used to describe my life over the last few years. After many years of going down a single career path and making a life in one part of the country, I’m planting new seeds elsewhere and birthing new hopes and dreams.

Rebirth. Renewal. Reinvention. Those are the themes that have been shaping my life lately. And astrology has given me the words to understand how.

At its core, astrology describes the nature of moments of time. With the natal chart as the foundation, astrological timing techniques can help us to understand and collaborate with our life’s timelines. To use myself as an example, since 2024, these techniques have pointed to several markers of change and rebirth for me. Just to name a few:

  • Uranus conjoined the ruler of my midheaven and my lot of spirit, pointing to an awakening or revolution in my purpose and work in the world

  • My secondary progressed Sun moved into a new sign, an indicator of a new 30-year cycle in self-development, identity, and how I understand and know myself

  • I moved into a secondary progressed new moon phase, indicating emergence into new life directions, to unfold over the next ~30-years

  • And my secondary progressed midheaven and IC will soon move into new signs for the first time in ~30 years, pointing to new beginnings in what I need in the work I do in the world and as part of my personal life, home life, and life foundations

Astrology gifts us the language to understand our unique story, where we are in that story, and the shape and quality of that part of our journey. It reminds us that we are always on time for our lives. Even when where we are feels unfamiliar or uncertain. Even when we feel behind or afraid we are pointed in the wrong direction. Even when we feel we’re not ready. Our lives have seasons and cycles meant just for us.

Astrology can put our lives into a bigger perspective. And this perspective can help us to better align with the chapters of our lives. What might it mean, for example, to know that in this chapter of your life you’re meant to slow down and turn inwards? Or that you’re meant to reset and move towards a new horizon? What medicine might that offer you? What might that understanding make possible? Who might it help you to be?

When we understand how the planets are moving through and with our natal charts, it can foster self-kindness and soften fear, confusion, or uncertainty. It can build trust in our lives. It can give us direction and purpose and help us to find pathways that might otherwise have gone unseen.

These are the sorts of things I like to think and talk about in year ahead readings. Not so much as a focus on predicting specific events but instead on understanding the nature of time in your life. What is the shape of this moment in time? What is this period good for? What might you best attend to or change or try? How does it fit into your story’s bigger picture? I believe this perspective can help us to be gentler with ourselves and in deeper relationship with our lives. Like the star on the map that says “you are here,” astrology can show you where you are.
